š¾ Sponsor Jessās Care š¾
Meet Jess, also known as Jessica, Jess Jess, or Jess-ca, our longest-standing sanctuary resident and a true queen of resilience. She is a ginger girl with a heart of gold and a story that shows just how much love, care and safety can matter. She lives with chronic rhinitis after surviving horrific abuse, but even with her ongoing health challenges, she still adores people and greets us with love every day. She is gentle, affectionate, trusting and deeply loved.
š§” Jessās rescue story
Jess was found abandoned in a rented property with 15 other cats. Most were taken by the RSPCA, but Jess and two others were left behind. She was unwell from the start, and vets later discovered a shocking cause, a piece of her own skull lodged in her nasal cavity, likely from deliberate injury. This had left her hard palate paper-thin and caused chronic infection. After a failed first surgery, Jess was treated at Willows in Birmingham, where the bone was removed and the hole repaired thanks to donations raised through our āJump for Jessā skydive. Jess improved so much after treatment, but she has always needed careful ongoing care.
𩺠Jessās health and care
Jess lives with chronic rhinitis and needs daily support to keep her comfortable. More recently, the hole in the roof of Jessās mouth has returned, which means she needs even closer monitoring and careful day-to-day management. She is regularly watched for signs of infection, changes in breathing, sneezing, discharge, appetite, comfort and general wellbeing. Jess stays most comfortable with daily nebuliser treatment in her box, usually 2ā3 times a day. This helps support her breathing and manage her chronic symptoms. She also needs a dental this year, adding to her ongoing veterinary needs. Jessās care is constant, gentle and carefully managed around keeping her comfortable, stable and safe.
š§” Jess today
Despite everything she has been through, Jess loves people. She is gentle, affectionate and trusting and a true example of forgiveness. She enjoys calm spaces, routine and plenty of fuss, and she lets us know how happy she is with her warm purr.
Jess loves:
- Gentle strokes and chin rubs
- Quiet, comfy spaces
- Her daily pampering and care routines
- The attention she gets from āherā humans
- Being treated like the princess she is
Jess does not appreciate:
- Loud noises or stressful environments
- Unfamiliar animals in her space
- Vet trips, even though she is very experienced by now
- Dusty areas or anything that makes her sneeze
- Nasty infections flaring up and making her uncomfortable
She is soft, loving, brave and incredibly special.
š Jessās future
Jess is a permanent sanctuary resident and will stay here with us for life. Due to her chronic rhinitis, returned hole in the roof of her mouth, need for daily nebulising, infection monitoring and ongoing veterinary care, Jess needs lifelong stability and a home that fully understands her medical needs. She is safe, loved and settled with us, where her daily care is part of her routine and her comfort can be closely monitored. For Jess, sanctuary means safety, gentle care, medical support, routine, comfort and a life where she is treasured exactly as she deserves.
